Ku · Between Cause and Effect
Sometimes,
we notice the effect,
but forget the cause.
We admire a flourishing tree,
yet forget it once existed as a seed beneath the soil.
We see someone’s achievement,
yet overlook the quiet years that shaped it.
We witness a flower in bloom,
yet forget the long winter it endured.
And so we often believe
that things happen suddenly.
But they do not.
Between cause and effect
lies a long passage of time.
Cause is the beginning.
Effect is the manifestation.
Most of life unfolds
between the two.
It is a path where results remain unseen.
Roots growing beneath the earth are unseen.
Streams gathering in the mountains are unseen.
Even dawn begins its arrival
while the world is still dark.
What cannot be seen
is not necessarily absent.
Much of our anxiety comes from expecting fruit
immediately after planting a seed.
We act today
and seek results tomorrow.
We learn today
and expect understanding tomorrow.
We sow a single seed
and hope for a forest by morning.
Yet nature has never worked this way.
Trees have their time.
Flowers have their time.
Human beings have their time as well.
Cause and effect are not an instant exchange.
They are a slow unfolding.
Looking deeper,
cause and effect are not merely two points.
Every effect of this moment
is shaped by countless causes from the past.
And every effect of this moment
is already becoming a new cause.
Life, therefore,
is not a straight line.
It is an interconnected web.
Everything we encounter
reveals itself through time.
There is no need to rush toward outcomes.
Some things are already happening,
though they have not yet appeared.
Some seeds have already begun to grow,
though they have not yet broken through the soil.
Between cause and effect
lies time.
And time
is never in a hurry.

Nothing appears suddenly.
It simply arrives, slowly, through time.
